Thanks for a great mixer celebrating 40 years of Khalsa!

Superheroes

Without a doubt, Justin and Dawn Baumgartner were the superheroes of this year’s mixer. Justin planned and executed our menu, and went the extra mile to create a great meal made with fresh produce and a tight budget. We were very happy to honor a Khalsa tradition and have parents handcraft the celebratory dinner. Dawn coordinated our silent auction singlehandedly, helping to pay for the event and provide another venue for the community to celebrate each other.

We also thank Jeanne Ugarte for making and coordinating our desserts, including the nifty 40th year cake.

Gala Co-Chairs

Tara & John Collison & Keely Varvel Hartsell once again co-chaired the event. This is their third time running the mixer, and the experienced planning showed in a smooth event.

We also want to thank the PTO officers for all their help in set-up and coordination and time expended: Brian Flatgard, Anne Elizabeth Hamilton, Lisa Callarman and Victoria Avella.

Childcare

Thanks as always to Mark and Julie at zPizza for helping provide a nice dinner for our children.

The poi dancing entertainment was provided once again by Julie Ram Das.

Thanks to Satwant, Rick Reeker and Carol Carpenter for sharing their memories and giving us an informative, and sometimes hilarious, glimpse at all that’s occurred to make Khalsa what it is today.

Thanks to Jim Dickson for preemptively remembering to turn on and string lights for childcare.

Mark “the Knife” Heldenbrand was there for us first thing in the morning with food prep, loaned us knives, and was the last man standing at clean-up.

Adrian and Mona Fontes graciously welcomed visitors at our sign-in table.

Thanks to all who attended our attendance record-breaking first meeting!

Almost 70 parents and 50 children showed up for our kickoff event for Khalsa’s 40th year. We look forward to your continued enthusiasm, and are quite proud of our community tonight.

A thanks to Dawn Tapia for her reminders about observing children in the classroom, and next time we’ll give Satwant some more time to expand on the history of the school!

We couldn’t pull off the carnival without our raffle and wristband sales, and that burden falls to our ever-gracious receptionists, Dawn and Corina.

They go above and beyond their regular duties and actually hustle the sales for us.

We also greatly appreciate all they do to tie up every loose end of every project we do. Please give them a personal word of thanks as well.
